Basic Valves

basic valveThe Model 100-01 is the basic valve used in nearly all Cla-Val full port automatic control valves. It is the valve of choice for system applications requiring remote control, pressure regulation, solenoid operation, rate-of-flow control, liquid level control or check valve operation. The simplicity of design and the rugged construction of this diaphragm-actuated valve assure a long life of dependable, trouble-free operation. It is available in various materials and in a full range of sizes, with either threaded, flanged or grooved ends. Its applications are unlimited.

In addition to the 100-01, there many other basic valve configurations available to suit a wide range of operational requirements, including reduced port valves (NGE); the Powertrol (100-02) valve with an intermediate chamber for pump control applications; and basics valves that have been fitted with KO Anti-Cavitation Trim for applications with high capacity and high pressure differentials.  Regardless of your application, Cla-Val has a valve that can handle the job.

Pressure Reducing Valves

pressureThe 90/690 Series Pressure Reducing/Pressure Regulating Valve (PRV) automatically reduces a higher inlet pressure to a steady lower downstream pressure, regardless of changing flow rate and/or varying inlet pressure. Cla-Val’s PRVs are installed in water distribution systems throughout the world and are known for their superior performance, reliability and long service life.  There are many variations on the basic pressure reducing valve, including but not limited to the following.

Pressure Relief/Sustaining Valves

Pressure ReliefThe 50 Series Pressure Sustaining Valve is designed to maintain constant upstream pressure within close limits. The Pressure Relief Valve is designed to protect the system or installations against high pressure surges when pumps are shut down. In operation, the valve is actuated by line pressure through a pilot control system, opening fast to maintain steady upstream line pressure but closing gradually to prevent surges.

The CLA-VAL 50-01 (Sustaining Service) is typically installed in a line between an upper zone and a lower area of heavy demand or tank.

The CLA-VAL 50-01 (Relief Service) is typically installed near the pump on a line discharging to atmosphere.

There are many variations on the basic pressure relief/sustaining valve, including but not limited to the following:

Solenoid Control Valves

solenioidThe Cla-Val 136 Series Solenoid Control Valve is an on-off control valve that either opens or closes upon receiving an electrical signal to the solenoid pilot control. This valve consists of a Hytrol main valve and a three-way solenoid valve that alternately applies pressure to or relieves pressure from the diaphragm chamber of the main valve.  It is furnished either normally open (136D01; de-energized solenoid to open) or normally closed (136E01; energized solenoid to open).

Industrial uses for the solenoid control valve are many and include accurate control of process water for batching, mixing, washing, blending or other on-off type uses.

Liquid level control can be provided by using a float switch or electrode probe which sends an electrical signal to open or close the valve as required

Pump Control Valves

Pump Control ValvesCla-Val Pump Control valves are manufactured in a variety of configurations to meet critical pump control application requirements with precise performance and maximum durability.

Cla-Val 60 Series Booster Pump Control valves are designed for installation on the discharge of a booster pump to prevent pipeline surges caused by starting or stopping of the pump.  When a pump is started, a solenoid control is energized and the valve gradually opens.  When the pump is signalled to shut-off, the solenoid is de-energized and the valve gradually closes.  Should a power failure occur, a built-in lift-type check valve closes the moment flow stops, preventing reverse flow.

Flow Control Valves

Flow Control ValvesCla-Val Flow Control/Rate of Flow Control Valves prevent excessive flow by limiting flow to a preselected minimum rate, regardless of changing line pressure.  The pilot control responds to the differential pressure produced across an orifice plate installed downstream of the valve.  Accurate control is achieved as very small changes in the controlling differential pressure produce immediate corrective action of the main valve.

A typical application for this type of automatic control valve is as a pressure type filter effluent control valve where a constant flow rate is maintained despite variation in head loss through the filter, or anywhere a constant rate of flow is desired.

There are many variations on the basic Rate of Flow Control Valve, including but not limited to the following:

  • 45-01 Rate of Flow with Pressure Sustaining
  • 43-01 Rate of Flow with Solenoid Shut-Off
  • 49-01 Rate of Flow with Pressure Reducing

Altitude and Level Control Valves

Altitude and Level Control ValvesCla-Val manufactures several different types of level control valves.  Non-modulating float valves fully open when the liquid level in a tank reaches a pre-set low point.  The opening operation allows for the tank to be refilled to a pre-set high point, at which time the valve closes drip-tight.

Modulating float valves maintain a constant liquid level in a storage tank by compensating for variations in supply or demand and are used to control the flow into or out of a tank by either opening or closing on a rising level.

Cla-Val Altitude Control Valves regulates the high water level in reservoirs without the need for floats or other devices.  These non-throttling valves remain fully open until the pre-set shut-off point is reached.  Altitude valves can be configured for one-way or two-way flow depending on system requirements and can be furnished with auxiliary controls for multiple functions such as pressure sustaining, pressure reduction, rate-of-flow control, solenoid override or other parameters as needed.

The AQUA 80-910 balanced hydraulically operated modulating float valve is installed on the reservoir inlet supply pipe above the maximum water level. As the flow out of the reservoir fluctuates according to changes in demand, the float control proportionally opens or closes the valve keeping the liquid level nearly constant.
An optional surge control feature which can function even at maximum water level, is available on request.
